How to learn the countries of North America

Pick the North America region and a mode that includes capitals. The map zooms to the region, so even the smaller Central American and Caribbean countries are easy to see and select.

Start with the three large countries, then walk south through Central America in order. Because the isthmus is a single chain, learning it in sequence is much easier than learning it at random.

Tips for Central America and the Caribbean

Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama run roughly northwest to southeast. Reciting them in that order gives you a reliable mental sequence instead of guessing between neighbours.

Several Central American flags use the same blue-white-blue palette inherited from the old Federal Republic of Central America, so the emblem in the centre is usually the detail that tells them apart.

North America has 23 sovereign countries when Central America and the Caribbean island nations are included. MapDuel features a selection covering the mainland and the largest island states.

Is Central America part of North America?

Yes. Central America is generally treated as a subregion of North America rather than a separate continent, which is how MapDuel groups it.

Which North American countries are hardest to place?

The Central American countries are the most commonly confused because they are small and arranged in a narrow chain. Honduras and Nicaragua are mixed up most often, as are the Caribbean island nations.
